Douce et romantique, la pivoine est au cœur de Peony & Blush Suede, le dernier parfum de la maison londonienne Jo Malone. La parfumeur Christine Nagel, cherchant à capturer le lien unissant l’artisanat du parfum et de la haute couture, a choisi d’associer à la délicatesse des pétales de la pivoine la sensualité cuirée du daim. Un mariage surprenant mais réussi: la pivoine, d’habitude tellement candide, gagne en profondeur, sinon en ambivalence, grâce à cette peau chaleureuse en note de fond. Le cœur floral, où l’on décèle également de la rose et du jasmin, s’évanouit lentement pour laisser la place aux accents fruits confits caractéristiques de la note daim, qui évoquent ceux d’un autre parfum que j’aime beaucoup : Bottega Venetta, qui s’attache à retranscrire l’univers de tissus et de peaux du maroquinier italien. Quant au « blush » indiqué sur le flacon, il semble faire référence à la pomme rouge, piquante et acidulée, qui ouvre les premiers instants de la fragrance.
Sweet and romantic, peony is at the heart of Peony & Blush Suede, the latest fragrance by London-based house Jo Malone. Perfumer Christine Nagel, eager to capture the bond that links fragrance and couture know-hows, chose to associate to the delicate peony petals the leathery sensuality of suede. A surprising yet interesting blend: usually so candid, peony gains depth, if not ambivalence, thanks to the presence of warm skin in the base notes. The floral heart, where rose and jasmine also appear, slowly vanishes and leaves way to the candied fruit accents characteristic of the suede note, evoking those of another fragrance I enjoy very much: Bottega Venetta, which aims at capturing the Italian house of leather goods’ universe of fabrics and skins. As for the “blush” the bottle reads, it seems to be a reference to the zesty, acid red apple that opens the first instants of the fragrance.
