The world’s oldest candle maker buries beautiful stories in the wax of its creations. Ottoman, the newest of them, takes us on a dream-like journey to the heart of a sensual, mysterious East. After an exhilarating route amidst the maze of old Constantinople’s streets, we seat around tea in a secret little café. The atmosphere is warm and hushed, whispered conversations let out curls of smoke, intoxicating the air with honey-dew, leathery notes. And in the middle of this slightly dusty genre scene, the most majestic flowers blossom: a rich Turkish rose and a delicious jasmine blend on a background of spices and candied fruit.
Above, English painter and illustrator Lawrence Mynott turns Ottoman’s ofactory universe into a drawing.
